all thingsI can do all things through Christ who gives me strength…

Occasionally I have the privilege to consult with ministries and leaders.  Frequently I hear stories of burnout and feeling overwhelmed with responsibilities coupled with a reference to Philippians 4:13, which i feel is likely one of the most dangerous verses in the Bible because it is so commonly abused and one of the greatest catalysts for leaders to excuse physical imbalance in their lives.

“Driven” leaders (as so many of you are), frequently continue biting off more, doing more and stretching more for the sake of “the vision”…BUT often at the cost of failing to rest MORE…!

It is important to realize that with a stretch also comes a thinning… and if the thinning becomes too thin a breaking will be the result.

I’m not debating that when necessary God will give us the strength that we need to accomplish what He has desired, but I’m NOT convinced that this strength is going to come at the expense of obedience, necessary Sabbath rest and balance in our lives.

I just wonder if it’s possible that obedience is still better than sacrifice.  And if so, what might you be “sacrificing” for the good of the ministry at the cost of “obedience” to the leading of the Holy Spirit in your life…?

Sadly, most only learn this lesson after the break… Wisdom provides an alternative if you’re listening.
