John 5:19

Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing ofHimself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

I’m not sure how everyone else processes, but I often have “deep thoughts” while I’m still asleep and wake up pondering the thought…This has happened frequently over the past 3 years while writing my book, Quantum Christianity (slated to be released 4th quarter this year) and happened again this morning.

In John 5:19 Jesus explains emphatically to those who have accused him of breaking the law that He “does NOTHING unless He first sees the Father doing it”.

Without going into a deep exegesis on this passage, I believe Jesus is exampling what it looks like for those who are led by the Spirit of God.  He uses the word “sees” (which I find particularly interesting).  I wonder if it is possible that Jesus is actually referring to a “prophetic/spirit led” insight that He receives in His “mind’s eye” where He simply does what He pictures in His mind as He seeks direction & God reveals to Him what He wants to do in a given situation.

Unlike Jonah, if Jesus did “Nothing” unless He first saw the Father doing it and said nothing unless He first heard the Father say it (John 12:49-50), then, from day to day, when He went to one city instead of another, He did it because God directed Him to do so.

This is not really rocket science deduction here but I questioned today if this was also a part of the consistency in breakthrough for those He encountered…Would He still have experienced the miracles and breakthroughs if He had simply strapped on His sandals and walked to a city where He wanted to go instead of where God had directed Him or did the fact that He obeyed the direction open the door for the miraculous?

Some might argue, “He was the Son of God and could have done whatever He wanted…” but that’s not what Jesus himself said when he stated, “He could do nothing of himself”… God’s agreement was essential…

I just wonder if we would experience more breakthroughs and see more of the miraculous if we actually included God in our daily decisions.  I’m sure if I were faithful to ask Him, many times God would simply say, “Aaron, go wherever you want to go today…” but I wonder how many days have been wasted where I just made my own plans, did my own thing, concentrated on my own issues, became preoccupied by my own distractions and completely missed what God would have liked to have done through me in that day had I first consulted Him for direction.

James 4:2 says, “You have not because you ask not…” Today, I’m just wondering if God would like to be more involved in my daily decisions and actually be asked if there is something He would have me to do.  And if I were more intentional to ask, I wonder what that could mean for those that I encounter or even my own fulfillment in life…

Perhaps “breakthrough”& the “miraculous” may not be found in a “formula” but rather in an instant revelation/impartation from the Spirit of God that is unique and differing from anything you have ever seen or done before — Followed by your obedience to do only what you have seen…

So I ask, “What do you see today…?”
