“If you haven’t directly dealt with strongholds in your life, then you are presently dealing with strongholds in your life!”
Aaron Davis
(Author of Freedom Revolution)
I am so excited about this project! I travel the country speaking in churches all the time and throughout the course of my travels I have found that most churches do not have some sort of freedom from strongholds or deliverance ministry available to their people. As a result for the most part, many people within their churches find themselves stuck praying and failing and praying again for God to take these strongholds from them not knowing what to do with the strongholds that seem to set them back over and over again in their lives. That day is over!
Deliverance type ministries often have quite the stigma attached to them with bizarre mental images or uncomfortable expectations attached to them causing many pastors to feel like they have to either employ a specialist or concern that the approach of the deliverance minister will not match the DNA of their church. NOT THIS ONE!
Most Pastor’s that I come in contact with are unaware that I have been the Deliverance Pastor at OasisChurch.tv in Nashville for the past 5 years. Initially, when trying to figure out how we would implement our own curriculum I traveled and studied how other churches were teaching and implementing a deliverance type of curriculum at their churches. What I found is that every ministry had a different view on what Deliverance looked like.
For some it was all about intense inner healing and walking the most wounded people individually through the scars of their past to try to piece together what had been so drastically fragmented. For others it was about taking people away to some secluded place for a weekend, confiscating their cell phones and having an intense address of all things spiritual in their lives. Still for others it looked like a classic Pentecostal exorcism service.
Although very intentional and affective in their own right (especially with those who are the most fragmented), I did not feel that much of what I observed and defined as Deliverance ministry was relevant to the masses. In my 5 years of deliverance ministry experience I’ve become convinced that most people are not possessed and have not experienced trauma so intense that it has fragmented and split their minds and personalities needing intense, intentional and highly professional intervention. On the flip side of that, many (perhaps even most) are like me and not comfortable with the idea of being taken away to a remote location where they are not allowed to communicate with others until the encounter weekend is over.
Truth be told, in my opinion, what is often defined as Deliverance ministry feels spooky to most people and as a result not relevant to their personal experience. Because of this negative perception, the masses who need freedom from the power of strongholds in their lives end up not experiencing it because, to them what is available to them in the form of Deliverance is not what they really need.
Having been raised in church and recognizing my own mental images and presumptions regarding Deliverance ministry I began developing a curriculum that would help walk the masses of people through freedom who, like myself, have struggled with a lack of victory over strongholds.
The Freedom Revolution curriculum is designed to directly address the largest percentages of people in your church that are believers but have found it difficult to live free from the sin(s) that they have struggled with since they were children. They want to be free. They’ve prayed to be free. They’ve asked God to take the sin and failures from them…yet, they still find these sins creating a ceiling for their progress. This is a blatant example of unresolved strongholds existing in a believers life. And, in my experience, all of us have had to deal with them.
Initially, I decided to develop this curriculum for the Oasis so that while I was traveling and speaking evangelistically I would not leave a void in my absence, but as I shared my idea with other pastors and staff members in the churches I’ve spoken for over the past 18 months they have expressed an excitement as well, asking me if it would be possible to implement the Freedom Revolution Curriculum at their church with statements like, “We need something like that so badly here” or “We don’t have any kind of deliverance ministry here and could really use that curriculum!”
As a result, I have completely rewritten and redesigned The Freedom Revolution curriculum to be 100% replicable in a small group format for churches of any size with an interdenominational approach that would be considered acceptable and tweak-able for the Baptist and the Charismatic church. The 5 week curriculum will include:
- A book containing a 5 week once a day reading.
- Six dvd’s (1 introduction and 5 weekly) 15-20 minutes in length, for the small group leaders to show in their group meeting and discuss afterward while teaching and addressing some key topics from the previous weeks readings.
- A workbook with class topics and fill in the blank question and answers for weekly notes and group discussion.
- 5 CD audio series teaching a deeper level of the addressed the content for teachers and students looking for more.
- A DVD teaching how to conduct your own Breakthrough to Freedom Weekend
- A 100% replicable script for conducting your own Breakthrough event.
- Four 15-20 minute dvd’s to show in the weeks following the event that will address some of what the participants of the Freedom Weekend may be experiencing after going through the class and reaching a place of freedom from strongholds!
The Freedom Revolution: Overcoming Strongholds in the 21st Century book is scheduled to be complete by the end of January 2016 and the complete curriculum is slated for release no later than September 2016.
