These are three of my favorite words as a father. Rocky said them to me yesterday as he played and they have resonated with me as I have reflected on them since.

From my attention and praise my son receives affirmation for his life. Yet, as I considered it further, something more came alive to me. Although telling him how I feel personally is a blessing to him, there is something about praising him and showing him honor in front of others that takes that affirmation to a completely different level!  In that moment, accompanying the affirmation is the confirmation and subsequent replication of what is in my heart, as it becomes a deposit of favor, elevating him in the hearts and minds of others and shaping their view of him to agree with mine!

Pondering this today, I recognize that there is something about it that carries substantial weight not only as a father but as a leader. It’s one thing to affirm with words. It’s something completely different to affirm and elevate with influence. I have some serious contemplation to do to bring this thought to a place of completion in my own heart and mind… but initially, in my gut, I believe this is a “God thought” has significant value.
